What you earn as an Avon representative depends on the products you sell and the commission or discount level you qualify for.
For example, £400 of qualifying customer product sales at 25% would give you £100 before expenses. That is an example of how the calculation works, rather than a promise of monthly income.
Avon advertises earnings of up to 32% on product sales, but new representatives have a separate introductory programme. You don’t automatically start on the highest rate.
Here’s how the earning opportunity works, with examples to help you understand the figures.
If you’re exploring becoming a representative, our guide to joining Avon explains how to get started with Carolyn.
How do Avon representatives earn money?
You earn from selling Avon products to customers. Depending on how the order is placed, your earnings take the form of a discount on the products you order or commission from customer orders placed online.
For orders you handle yourself, the basic idea is the difference between what your customer pays and what you pay Avon for the products.
For example, if a customer buys £100 of products and the applicable representative discount is 20%, the products would cost you £80, leaving £20 before expenses.
That example assumes the full £100 qualifies for the stated discount and you charge the customer the advertised price. Different terms can apply to specially priced products and offers.
How much can a new Avon rep earn?
Avon’s published Avon Welcomes programme covers a representative’s first three campaigns. During that period, the discount level is based on qualifying sales in each campaign.
The published discount bands are:
| Qualifying campaign sales | New-rep discount |
|---|---|
| £1–£99.99 | 10% |
| £100–£249.99 | 20% |
| £250–£499.99 | 25% |
| Over £500 | 30% |
These are the published Avon Welcomes bands. Your account’s current terms determine eligibility, qualifying sales and the rate that applies.
As your qualifying sales increase, you can reach a higher discount band.
Examples of Avon rep earnings
These examples show what different amounts of qualifying customer sales could produce using the new-rep discount bands.
| Qualifying customer sales in a campaign | Example rate | Earnings before expenses |
|---|---|---|
| £50 | 10% | £5 |
| £100 | 20% | £20 |
| £250 | 25% | £62.50 |
| £400 | 25% | £100 |
| £600 | 30% | £180 |
| £1,000 | 30% | £300 |
These are calculations, not typical earnings or forecasts. They assume the customer products qualify for the stated rate and are sold at their advertised prices. Returns, adjustments and different product terms can affect the result.
The useful question is how many customers and repeat orders you could build over time.
For illustration, 20 customers each ordering £20 would produce £400 in customer sales. Finding those customers and keeping their interest is the work behind the calculation.
What happens after your first three campaigns?
After Avon Welcomes, representatives move into Avon Rewards.
This programme uses qualifying sales over a quarter to determine your reward level and the discount available for the following period. Avon currently advertises a maximum rate of 32%, subject to its programme conditions.
That means the introductory programme and the ongoing programme work differently. Check the level shown in your representative account rather than assuming the new-rep bands continue indefinitely.
Can you earn money selling Avon online?
Yes. Avon provides an online shop and digital brochure that you can share with customers.
Online orders can contribute to your Avon business alongside orders from printed brochures. They also give customers a way to browse and order without you personally collecting every order.
Your shop still needs people to visit it. Sharing useful product information, answering questions and staying in touch with customers can help you build a routine around online selling.
The commission and payment arrangements that apply to online orders are shown in your representative account.
Do you need to recruit other representatives to earn?
You can earn from your own customer product sales without building a team.
Selling products as a representative and developing a team as a sales leader are different activities. Leadership has its own responsibilities and earning arrangements.
The examples in this article relate to personal product sales. They do not include income from recruiting or supporting a team.
Are commission and profit the same thing?
Commission or sales margin is what you earn before business expenses. Profit is what remains after those expenses.
You don’t need to begin by purchasing lots of extras. The Essentials Pack provides your initial printed selling materials, alongside Avon’s digital tools.
Our guide to Avon joining costs and the Essentials Pack explains what’s included and how you can start simply.
As you grow, keep a record of any additional materials or delivery expenses so you can see what you are actually making.
How much could you earn in your first month?
There isn’t one reliable figure for a new representative’s first month.
Some people begin with a few orders from people they know. Others already have a wider group of potential customers to introduce to Avon.
A practical first-month aim is to get familiar with the products and ordering process, start sharing your brochure or shop, and find out who is interested in ordering again.
Your first results give you a starting point. From there, you can decide how much time to put into finding more customers.
